2018 Lil' Pollution Preventer Art Contest
In January 2018, we asked Memphis students from PK- 5th grade to design a new downstream friend for Gurgle and show how pollution impacted that animal. The animal had to live around Memphis waterbodies and their waterbody had to be named. We also asked them to come up with a slogan to prevent pollution and encourage citizens to adopt a storm drain. We received 92 entries this year from 5 schools and the students really showed a lot of talent and passion! Our art was judged on creative content, contrast, detail, factual content, and legibility. They also needed to be mindful of copyright to win. We did not receive a lot of entries for the PK- 2nd age group, so 2nd and 3rd graders were judged for one prize and 4th and 5th graders for the other. Our two winners, Mia Stallings from Shady Grove Elementary 3rd grade and Whittney Ousley from Douglass Elementary 5th grade, will have their art displayed on a billboard, printed in magazines, and be featured in our upcoming commercials! Thanks to all our teachers, parents, and students!
We want to honor our participants and teach kids more about their environment. So we are doing our 2nd annual Lil' Pollution Preventer's Environmental Expo at the Agricenter Showplace Arena on May 8th from 2 pm to 5 pm. Read more about all our great activities here and join us!
