MLK Day of Service

  • City of Memphis Bass Pro Drive Memphis, TN, United States (map)

We teamed up with Clean Memphis and Memphis Transformed for the MLK Days of Service Litterati Challenge. Join us this weekend (Friday, January 14th through Monday, January 17th) in our fun-filled socially-distanced litter pick-up challenge. Our goal is to pick up 10,000 pieces of litter and we can’t do it without you! Tell your family and friends and let’s get to it!

What is Litterati? We are glad you asked! Litterati is a new app powered by machine learning and geotagging technology. Litterati enables us to better identify litter, determine trends, and create more effective prevention tactics. Our goal is to pick up over 10,000 pieces of litter from our streets, neighborhoods, and parks between Friday, January 14th and Monday, January 17th (to be extended in the event of inclimate weather).

Safety Tips + Best Practices

  • This is a fun service opportunity meant to help you social distance during your litter pick up. We encourage you to do your litter pick up by yourself or with the family in your household.

  • Be sure to wear gloves and a mask (if you feel you need to) during your litter pick up.

  • Dispose of your litter-filled trash bag/bucket in your trash bin or public park trash bin (if you pick up litter in the park).

Where are the best places to pick up litter?

  • Your street - step right outside your front door and start picking up litter on your street. Pay close attention to those storm drains, they good use some TLC!

  • Parks - visit Overton Park Conservancy, Shelby Farms Park, or your local neighborhood park

  • Busy intersections - get out to the nearest busy intersection and start picking up litter
