MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 17, 2026 – The City of Memphis Storm Water Department is offering Green Camp, a FREE summer academic enrichment program for high school students who live within the Memphis city limits.
Green Camp provides students with hands-on learning experiences focused on environmental engineering, chemistry, environmental issues, urban development, and stormwater pollution awareness and prevention. The program is designed to help students better understand how cities impact local waterways and how individuals can help protect the environment.
Students who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Participation and up to 35 hours of community service credit.
At the start of the camp, students will develop hypotheses related to three key questions:
Does Memphis have an adverse effect on the quality of water in its rivers and waterways?
Do individuals have a direct impact on the quality of Memphis waterways and the environment?
Would implementing green infrastructure in urban development improve water quality in Memphis watersheds?
At the conclusion of the program, students will present their findings by completing one of the following projects:
A scientific research paper
A tri-fold presentation
A poster presentation
A physical model
Selected scientific papers may be published on the Storm Water Department’s website, and top tri-fold presentations and models may be displayed during a special public event.
Students interested in participating should visit the Storm Water Department website to download and submit an application. Application deadline: May 15, 2026.
The City of Memphis encourages students and residents to take pride in their community and help protect local waterways. Be proud of your city. Help keep our waterways clean and beautiful.
